Bramham Gala 2012/Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
The Gala was held on Saturday June 2nd 2012 and was linked into the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebration weekend.
Elaine Hills and her famous sheepdog display group gave a tremendous show and was enjoyed by everyone there. Elaine appeared in 2009 and was such a great success that she returned by popular demand. We also are delighted that the Supreme Starlets Majorettes came again and are now a familiar part of the Gala and as a welcome return the Ebor Morris Dancers appeared again. They are a great team of dancers who perform across the region and beyond!!!
The Beer Tent was well supported with a range of drinks available including Real Ale from Rudgate Brewery. Rudgate produced a special beer called Jubilee Ale and this proved very popular and was finished off within an hour or so!!!
The bouncy castle and sideshows were always busy with queues to get a go. The Bucking Bronco attracted a lot of interest and the competitive edge of villagers came out.
During the afternoon we had the childrens sports which included traditional games such as the Sack Race, Egg & Spoon race and a medley race. Three age ranges gave everyone a chance to perform and everyone who entered were presented with a goody bag, kindly donated by Bramham Village Stores/Post Office. The winners were presented with a gift by BBCs Look North Presemter Tanya Arnold who kindly took some time off from appearing to come to our Gala. The sports were finished off by an adults Three Legged Race and with plenty of competitors and gave us all qute a lot of laughs with tumbles and various methods of getting to the finishing line!
Nik and Keith entertained the beer tent crowd with superb performances of covers and their own material.
The Fire Appliance and Police vehicles as usual attracted a lot of attention with the kids and at one time several boys were seen locked up in the police van!!!!
Food was provided by the Guides with their bar be que, the Village Chippy Fish & Chip van, Indian Food and the Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream van.
Face Painting by Karon again was popular. Stalls and stands from a range of village and community organisations surrounded the arena from Bramham In Bloom, Bramham School, Scouts, the Church Group and the Yorkshire Countrywomans Association.
Several groups decorated their tables in the jubilee theme and these were judged by Tanya Arnold. It was a close thing but the prize went to Lyndon Square whose table was a picture. Based on the Royal Barge "The Spirit of Chartwell" the table was decked out in all royal finery and all the food was home produced. The Yorkshire Countrywomans Association even had the Queen as a guest at their table!!!!
