BRAMHAM GALA 2008 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Bramham Moor
In 2008 the Gala was linked to the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Bramham Moor which is defined as a minor skirmish in which the first Earl of Northumberland was killed. A Commemorative stone was commissioned and erected on the new road out of Bramham. The current Duke of Northumberland was invited to unveil it and this was linked in to the Gala. The Gala had a mediaeval theme and with the Duke opening it there was a display by knights from the Royal Armouries, a birds of prey demonstration and living history groups. Many local organisations and groups had stalls or stands selling all sorts and offering tombolas, raffles and competitions. There was a football competition and for the first time a small family funfair was set up and was open on the Thursday and Friday nights as well as all day Saturday and Sunday. The weather was pretty awful on Thursday and Friday but still people came along to enjoy the rides. The weather held off on the Saturday and the Gala went off well. In the evening there was a Gala Gig in the Village Hall with Tadcaster band The Senators.
