BRAMHAM GALA JUNE 26TH 2010
The annual Bramham Gala returned on Saturday June 26th for the 5th year. The Gala opened at 11am and the arena events finished at 5pm although the beer tent stayed open to 9pm with live music.
This ever popular event drew huge crowds with a range of exciting arena events and a wide selection of local charity and organisations stalls and stands. The local police were there along with the crime prevention team and Wetherby Fire Station bought the Fire Engine for the kids (and parents to!) to enjoy.
We were pleased that the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Andrew McKenna and the Lady Mayoress came to visit and chat to stall holders and visitors. Our new MP Alec Shelbrooke also came and presented certificates and prizes to the competition winners who entered the jams, chutneys, cakes and garden in a tray sections. He also awarded certificates to the winners of the "Run A Mile in any Style" event that took place the previous Sunday, which was orgainsed by the Sport & Leisure Assn.
The Gala day promised treats including Ben Potters Birds of Prey Display, as seen at shows across the County. This was a fantastic display. A local dog show took place with several different categories including the “Waggiest Tail”, the most handsome dog and the dog that most looks like its owner. To continue the dog theme there was a demonstration of dog handling skills by the West Yorkshire Police Dog Team with a car chase, dogs bringing down gun bearing "criminals" and with an appearance by the West Yorkshire Police helicopter flying overhead. Badsworth & Bramham Moor Hunt hounds made an appearance in the arena and lots of people came in to the ring to meet them and asked the master lots of questions. Also in the arena there were performances by some very talented Supreme Starlight Majorettes showing off their baton twirling skills. The wellie throwing competition was also held in the arena.
Morris Dancers entertained those in the bar area.
The beer tent was open all day up to 9pm with a range of drinks including some fine Real Ale. The beer tent entertainment was live music provided by local group “Rebels without Applause”.
